October 2024
It turned out we scheduled our biggest event of the year during the week (or two) of wild weather Tasmania experienced at the end of winter! đ¨đ¨đ¨ We didn't want anyone to blow away, so we rescheduled, and our Winterfest 24 is now... SPRinterFest 24! And itâs happening this Saturday 12th October.
Come along and visit our home Botanical as we celebrate with Connected Beginnings on the Kutalayna/Jordan River foreshore. â We have a full day of fun activities planned â free food, live music, arts, crafts and more! â
We have some very talented musicians and performers performing on Saturday, and to find out a little bit more about them we chatted with Kyesha from Geneslave, a local band who is playing.

Tell us a little bit about your band, Geneslave?
Geneslave has been a band for 2 years. We love to share our life experiences through music, highlighting abuse, drug addiction and relationships.Â
How long have you been performing as a band, and what are you working on musically?
We have been performing as a band for over a year! Our first gig was at a youth centre called Youth Arc in September of 2023! We are currently working on releasing our debut EP!Â
What are your favourite genres, and who are your favourite artists in Nipaluna / Hobart?
My favourite genre is progressive metal, but Geneslave as a whole? We all really enjoy stoner/sludge/doom metal! Â
My favourite artist in Hobart is the band Guru Mook, They play Funk/Metal! Other artists I like are, The Absolution Sequence, Legal Noise, and Seven Inch Stare!Â
What could the community do more of to support your band and your musical dreams/aspirations?
It would be awesome to have more musical events, such as fundraisers, mini festivals and workshops (teaching people how to play an instrument, write songs, etc.).Â
My dream is to bring people music and help them find their love for it! I love that music brings people together and would love to help others (fundraisers) by playing music with other artists!Â
What are you looking forward to the most at this yearâs SPRinterFest24?
For this year's WinterFest I am looking forward to meeting new people, sharing my bands music, and seeing/listening to other Tasmanian artists!Â
What positive effect, in your view does SPRinterFest24 have on the Kutalayna Community?
WinterFest in my opinion gives opportunities to people that otherwise wouldn't have them, such as performance (performer and viewer), socialising and accessible events that everyone can attend.Â
This is very important in my opinion as it brings the community together, and gives them the opportunity to flourish!Â
Come and join in our biggest event of the year!
