May 2025
Earlier this year we celebrated the opening of the new 24 Carrot Garden at Ravenswood Heights Primary School in Launceston. Designed in collaboration with landscape architects Inspiring Place, and the school community, the garden is a state of the art, purpose built outdoor learning hub where students will grow, harvest, cook and share nutritious seasonal food. It features the tallest sunflowers we have ever seen, a beautiful arbor for future grape vines, raised garden beds for accessibility and a great compost setup!
Reuben Parker-Greer, 24 Carrot Garden Operations Manager says: ‘The completion of the Ravenswood Heights 24 Carrot Garden is an exciting occasion! It is a living learning resource for the school. Bringing the lessons of health, art and sustainability to life through growing, harvesting and feasting on fresh seasonal produce. In the 24 Carrot Gardens program we embrace inquiry and enjoyment while equipping young people with practical skills, positive habits and an appetite for lifelong learning.’

To celebrate the completion of the garden, the school invited a range of collaborators, including designers, landscapers, community members and government representatives. Guests were invited to a shared lunch and then rolled up their sleeves for a garden lesson with the students, planting lots of yummy herbs and flowers! This was followed by a whole-school assembly attended by students and parents. This moment of recognition from the entire school community truly highlighted the value that Principal Jason Gunn and the school place on the garden:
‘Having a 24 Carrot Garden in our school provides our students with an amazing area to plant, grow and harvest a huge range of produce that is transformed into wonderful healthy eating options. It also provides aspiration and an understanding of what they could replicate at home on a smaller scale. Our students absolutely love working with the 24 Carrot specialists Bron and Camille in the program! Our new garden, outdoor learning area and huge variety of produce opens our students to a whole new world of healthy eating, learning and valuable life experiences. As a school we are super excited to fully engage in this wonderful new area.’
